1984: Book III, Chapter I - III

Just as Winston had dreamed, he meets O'Brien in a place where there is no darkness. Instead of being a place of peace or representing a brighter future, he finds himself in a cell where the lights are never turned off. He is held with other prisoners, where they are subject to starvation and beatings and are constantly watched. I couldn't help but laugh at the part where Parsons has to use the lavatory pan and stinks up the cell for hours. Winston is eventually tortured by O'Brien and taken to Room 101. We learn the objective of the Party is power. The way they control everyone is by manipulating the minds of others and twisting the truth.
