Kite Runner: Chapter 22 - 25

During this last section of the book we reach the climax, when Amir fights against Assef. He finally is able to let go of his guilt and find redemption. Even though he gets badly injured, Amir shows he has changed by not running away and facing Assef. It's interesting to note that Amir's beating mirrored Assef's story, and how both felt a relief as they were being hit. Although the novel didn't have your typical fairytale ending, I found it to be realistic yet very hopeful. When Amir takes Sohrab to America, Sohrab stops talking and interacting with people. A glimmer of hope is seen in the last chapter, when Amir runs the kite for Sohrab. He sees him smile for just a little bit, which signifies that Sohrab will be able to heal and recover from his traumatic experience. The story really goes full circle at the end. Amir runs the kite and says "For you, a thousand times over" to Sohrab, just as how Hassan did for Amir many years ago. This marks the end of Amir's guilt and possibly the beginning of a new life for Sohrab.
